Julia grew up on Long Island, New York. She received her BA in Scientific Illustration and Pre-Medicine from Arcadia University in Glenside, Pennsylvania. An early fascination with medicine and complex patterns in nature initially drew her to the field of scientific illustration. Tutoring scientific subject matter throughout her undergraduate study reinforced her love of teaching, communication, and learning. Julia was thrilled to join the Department of Art as Applied to Medicine, surrounded by people who share her love for art and science. When she is not in the studio, Julia enjoys making pottery and playing the cello in the Hopkins Symphony Orchestra.

Julia was a 2017 recipient of a Vesalius Trust Research grant for her her Master’s thesis on the design of an interactive 3D program for the electronic medical record which she will present at the 2017 Association of Medical Illustrators conference in Austin, TX.
